We invite you to attend our upcoming AMS virtual seminar! This month's seminar will feature Danielle Wallace, an ecologist at the University of Melbourne.
Frogs and fungus: a parasitic partnership?
Danielle Wallace
(she/her)
26 June 2025
12pm (AEST) / 2pm (NZST)
Deferred to late 2025
Summary
How are our frogs surviving in the wild with the worst fungal disease on record? In her seminar, Danielle will outline how the deadly amphibian chytrid fungus made its way into Australia and the impact of this invasive pathogen on our native frog species. She will explain findings from her PhD about how chytrid fungus can alter reproductive output and breeding display in Australian frogs, and how these changes can help or hinder frogs in the wild to survive with chytrid fungus. Join Danielle to learn about a scarily cool fungus and the amazing adaptations frogs have developed to survive with infection!
Meet our speaker - Danielle Wallace!

Danielle is an ecologist and recently completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne. Her PhD was focused on the amphibian chytrid fungus, and how infection impacts reproduction and breeding display in Victorian tree frogs. She is passionate about wildlife and conservation, and absolutely loves frogs. Before completing her PhD, she worked as a field ecologist in the forests of East Gippsland, surveying for threatened species including Greater Gliders, Powerful Owls and Giant Burrowing frogs.
Danielle was also an awardee of the Dr Jack Warcup Memorial Price for the best mycology talk at the ESA conference in 2024.
